Healthy Morning Habits

I am trying my best to navigate adulthood. Some days are better than others, and the only way I learn is the hard way, so it seems. Having a morning routine is valuable, and that becomes more clear to me overtime. There is no one-size fits all way to begin a day. Waking up every day at 5AM can work wonders for some, while others need to operate on a few more hours of sleep. Personally, I feel sluggish if I eat when I wake up. I operate best when I fast every day 16-18 hours. I keep discovering things that keep me moving and here is what I have so far…

Journaling

Beginning my morning with a pen and paper has rewired my brain completely. Even if I am simply brainstorming and writing down nonsense, it clears my head! When I journal, I make my intentions clear for the day. I have found that when I write down anything and everything on my mind, I am much more disciplined throughout the day. Start writing your goals for five minutes and see what that does for you. It is easy to get caught up in the routine of life, and we forget to daydream. Always remember to keep a childlike wonder about the world. Life is lighter that way.

Black Coffee & Water

My mom always told me starting your day out with a lot of sugar leads to crashing and an unnecessary sugar addiction! HA! I believe her. Because my mother’s words stuck with me, I begin my day with cold water and black coffee. Black coffee satisfies my need for caffeine without giving me sugar overload. There are tons of benefits to plain coffee like increased fiber intake, less risk of heart disease, and heightened metabolic activity. If you operate best by intermittent fasting like me, the good news is that these two beverages will not break your fast. So, drink away!

Encouraging Videos

I pick up on things quick, so it is important that I begin my day with the right book, song, or video. Playing a motivating or relaxing video while I do my make-up gives me a much needed boost to walk out the door with some confidence. Listen to positive words when you wake up and while you move. It will most certainly make a difference. My advice to readers is to pay attention to what you are absorbing throughout the day. If it is gossip, drama, negativity then it will most definitely change your thought process. I have dramatically noticed a difference with who I choose to follow on social media accounts. Be mindful of what you choose to look at and listen to. Do not be afraid to hit the unfollow button if the content isn’t serving you.
