A Moment of Gratitude & Thanksgiving

I wanted to write a short & sweet post about a few things I am grateful for. I have so much to be thankful for, and I can’t think of a better time than the holiday season to express it. So, here we go!

I am thankful for my husband. Despite what mainstream media and millennial hipsters will tell you, marriage is beautiful. Loving someone deeply is beautiful. In fact, it is the most meaningful, sacred part of my life. I get to wake up every single morning next to my best friend. Dean has taught me so much about myself, and I learn from him every day. Of course, life isn’t always perfect. We get cranky, overwhelmed and need some alone time, but at the end of the day I get to build a life with him. What a blessing that is. There are so many things that make my life good, but being Dean’s wife is by far the best.

I am thankful for my education. Education is a privilege. I didn’t always think that way. When everyone around you goes to school and receives a higher education, it becomes normal. Not everyone has had the same opportunity to go to the schools I did and attend college. I even have choices on what route I want to take. As stressful as it may be, at least I have the freedom to make a choice. When I walk into a book store and have the ability to read words brilliant authors wrote, that is a privilege. My ability to learn and grow is something I take for granted far too often. Not everyone has had the same opportunities I have been presented.

I am thankful for fashion. I was always a girly girl. From a young age, I loved dressing up. I love that I can express myself through an outfit. Honestly, I look forward to doing my make-up in the morning! It relaxes me. I like that I can watch a Youtube video if I am learning a new hairstyle or makeup technique. In its own way, fashion is art. Getting an outfit together every morning gives me something to look forward to. It is how I express my personality and what I am feeling that day. Creating a look for myself, creates a feeling.

Of course, there are so many other things I wanted to include in that list, but it is Sunday night. I am tired. I wanted to make this week a time to express gratitude. I encourage you to think extra about all the things that you are thankful for and spend this Thursday loving your family and eating delicious food.

lots of love,

Devan

  1. This is beautiful Devan. It reminds me of how grateful I am that I got to live with my soulmate for almost 25 years. If I didn’t believe that I will be reunited with him some day I think that I would lose my mind.

I am so happy for you and Dean.

    I love you both, Nana
